Calls for a strong democracy and an independent justice system at national level were at the centre of the Citizens' Dialogue that Commission Vice-President Viviane Reding held with almost 400 citizens in the packed Sofia Military Club and a further 150 citizens who followed the dialogue on TV screens just in front of the building. "Democracy needs to overcome corruption, oligarchic structures and despair. It needs fairness, free media and an effective justice system. The European Commission is ready to lend a helping hand but the reforms need to be done by your government" she said.
